The island of Mindanao is one of the best travel destination alternatives if you are tired of the traffic and the pollution of the big metropolis. Believe me it is not what most people think it is. In the heart of this island lies Caraga, a region teeming with beautiful spots only waiting to be discovered. Indeed a perfect venue for your most anticipated summer getaway.

Caraga Region occupies the northeastern part of Mindanao. It is composed of five provinces: Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands. Unknown to many, the region is blessed with breathtaking pristine white-sand beaches and crystal clear waters which have already gained attention even abroad. Thanks to social media.

Here’s your TOP 3 Caraga Region Summer Getaway Destinations:

1.  Siargao Islands

This tear drop-shaped island in Mindanao is even made famous because of its gigantic surfing waves called ‘Cloud 9’. It is no wonder why Siargao has earned the tag line ‘Surfing Capital of the Philippines’. Locals and foreigners flock to this island every year for the annual Siargao Cup, a domestic and international surfing competition funded by the provincial government of Surigao del Norte.

But this island isn’t only about surfing. With its awe-inspiring natural wonders one will never run-out of something to do or places to visit.

Tinuy-an Falls has captivated the interest of travelers from all over the world. This has been featured in different local and international travel magazines and TV shows because of its majestic and wide water curtain. This is said to be the widest waterfall in the Philippines measuring 95 meters wide and 55 meters in height. This four tiered waterfall in Bislig City has been deemed to be the ‘Niagara Falls of the Philippines’. The water from the top of the three tiered cascading waterfalls plunges 180 feet high.

This premiere tourist destination in Caraga is located in Barangay Burboanan, a place one- hour away from the city’s commericial center – Mangagoy via Poblacion-San Isidro (Bagnan route).

3. Enchanted River

Enchanted River rightfully deserves its name for one and only reason – it is definitely ‘enchanting’. One should see it for real to see how its clear blue waters entice visitors to dip and join its inhabiting fishes. What is even more enchanting about this river is that many divers and swimmers have tried to get to its depths but failed due to its endless stretch.
