Three Filipinos to play major roles in ‘Miss Saigon’ U.K. tour

MANILA, Philippines – Following the footsteps of the world renowned Filipino talent Leah Salonga, three Filipino actors have landed major roles in ‘Miss Saigon’ UK tour opening in July.

According to Broadway World, Joreen Bautista will be playing as an alternate for the lead role of ‘Kim’ and Red Conception will play the role of the ‘Engineer’. Meanwhile, Gerald Santos has been cast as ‘Thuy’.

Conception is a theater actor known for his roles in the Philippine productions of “Priscilla Queen of the Dessert” and “Hairspray” while Santos is a winner of GMA 7’s Pinoy Pop Superstar.

Other cast members include Sooha Kim as ‘Kim’, Asley Gilmour taking the role of ‘Chris’, and Zoe Doano playing the role of ‘Ellen’.

The ensemble are joined by David Allwood, Randy Chien, Vinny Coyle, Kristine Mae Diaz, Michael James Eborall, Aynrand Ferrer, Seng Henk Goh, Emily Beth Harrington, Jack Heasman, Tom Hier, Barnaby Hughes, Kamm Kunaree, David Kar-Hing Lee, Amanda Lingdren, Ela Lisondra, Winchester Lopez, Christian Rey Marbella, Jay Marsh, Tom Mussell, Thao Nguyen, Saori Oda, YoungJoo Park, Kiel Payton, Katherine Picar, Alistair So, Carl Jae-Suk Sohlberg, Eloisa Amalia Tan, Gavin Tsang, Amadeus Williams, and Gerald Zarcilla.

The latest production of this Cameron Mackintosh musical will open at Curve Leicester, UK where it will play from Saturday 1 July – Saturday 22 July 2017.

In 1989, Leah Salonga first played the role of Kim in its West End production and later in 1991 for Broadway. Salonga would later win Laurence Olivier and Tony awards for her stellar performance.

Other Filipino thespians who have landed major roles in Miss Saigon’s past productions include; Rachelle Ann Go, Jon Jon Briones, Fil-Ams Eva Noblezada, Catherine Ricafort, Billy Bustamante, Monique Wilson, Isay Alvarez, Joanna Ampil, and Billy Bustamante, among others.
