Thailand has 19 confirmed coronavirus cases, health officials said
BANGKOK — Five people have been added on the list of those tested positive for the coronavirus, health officials said, bringing the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the kingdom to 19.
Four of the infected are Chinese tourists from Hubei province and one unnamed Thai taxi driver who, according to Health ministry permanent-secretary Sukhum Kanchanapimai, the first case of human-to-human transmission of the new coronavirus in Thailand.
“The Thai person who got infected does not have the record of traveling to China and it is likely that he was infected from a sick traveler from China,” said Tanarak Pipat, Deputy director-general of the Department of Disease Control.
Of the 19 confirmed cases, seven have been discharged and have returned to China, while the remaining 12, including the Thai cabbie, are in hospital.
