Former ASEAN Secretary General Dr. Surin Pitsuwan will arrive in Phitsanulok on Thursday, February 2 to visit the ‘English for All Project’.
From the airport Dr. Surin will directly head to Sapanteesam School, a primary school in Phitsanulok which is the recipient of the ‘English for All’ pilot project to personally check on its progress, said Dr. Warong Dechgitvigrom former MP of Phitsanulok and co-founder of EFA Project.
Dr. Surin will meet the school administrators, teachers, parents and pupils of Sapanteesam School who are part of the ‘English for All’ program that primarily aims to provide quality, fun and engaging English education to the learners who belong to Thailand’s poorest areas.
‘English for All’ started three years ago with only two teachers conducting English lessons to Kindergaten pupils. Dr. Warong said that there’s a need to build a stronger English language foundation among Thai learners so “we need to shift our focus on developing our young pupils.” Presently, the project has now employed a total of four teachers and has now catered primary aside from pre-school pupils.
Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, a former Deputy Leader of the Democrat Party has served as an ASEAN Secretary General for the year 2008- 2012.
