The superhero blockbuster overtakes the $2.07 billion the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” got, as well as “Titanic,” which netted $2.18 billion.
“Avatar,” sitting comfortably in the No.1 spot with $2.79 billion, is the movie to beat.
Hollywood analysts predict a long run for “Avengers.” The movie features a star-studded cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper and Josh Brolin.
