Still-Reigning Chakri Dynasty: Honoring the contribution of the Kings
The King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke the Great Day or famously known as Chakri Memorial Day is being celebrated every 6th of April to honor the contribution of the Kings of Chakri Dynasty who have been ruling the Kingdom since 1782.
Chakri Day commemorates the coronation of Rama 1, Phra Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke. In the same context, Rama 1 is widely known for establishing Krung Thep or modern day Bangkok, as the capital of Thailand.
The Chakri Dynasty has gone on to transforming and developing many aspects of Thai society. The current King Maha Vajiralongkorn succeeded King Bhumibol Adulyadej after his death in October 2016.
Furthermore, the entire Royal Family performs special ceremony at the Royal Chapel on Chakri Day. They also visit the Royal Pantheon to revere by laying a wreath in the statue of Rama 1.
