Shelves in supermarkets emptied as soon as lockdown extended
Residents of Bangkok rushed to the nearest supermarket after the government announced that lockdown will be extended by another 14 days to help combat the Delta variant.
Thailand’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) increased the number of provinces under the dar-red zones from 13 to 29 and announced they would all be under partial lockdown until August 31, The Nation reported.
Bangkokians and some dark-red provinces dashed to the supermarket and emptied shelves as soon as they heard of the extention, the report added.
Most supermarkets have run out of daily necessities like meat, vegetables and sauces.
