POEA warns public of job offers from fake POEA Facebook accounts
Facebook has become a platform for not only legit but also fake job offers. This prompted The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to issue a warning to jobseekers to be wary of job advertisements posted online.
In a report from GMA News, POEA Administrator Bernard P. Olalia revealed there are unscrupulous Facebook pages that are proliferating.
He said that these pages use the agency and its logo to advertise job offers or vacancies abroad, including Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, and the United States.
Olalia added that the fake POEA Facebook accounts the agency has traced, are:
- POEA Job Hirings in New Zealand
- POEA Jobs Online
- OFW POEA Jobs Abroad
- POEA Jobs Abroad
- POEA Job Hiring USA
- POEA Job Hiring Australia
- POEA Job Hiring UK
- POEA Job Agency Hiring
- POEA Trabaho Abroad Hiring
- POEA Jobs in Dubai
- Work Abroad-POEA Licensed Company
- POEA Accredited Licensed Agency
“The FB page “POEA Job Hirings in New Zealand” was reported to have posted ads of supposed vacancies of Honda New Zealand that target Filipino workers. But Honda has denied having any active recruitment activity in the Philippines or any country outside New Zealand,” the report said.
According to Otala, the official Facebook account of the POEA is facebook.com/poea.gov.ph, adding that the page has a blue checkmark which means it has already been verified by Facebook itself.
Applicants are advised to confirm the POEA the validity of the jobs offered through email and social media through the online verification system at the website poea.gov.ph or by calling telephone hotlines 8722-1144 and 8722-1155, the report added.
