PM Chan-o-cha compares new Thai boxing champ to Pacquiao
BANGKOK: Filipino boxing champ and now senator Manny Pacquiao lands in Thai newspaper headlines on Tuesday, March 28, after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha called Thai boxer Srisaket Sor Rungvisai as the “Thai Pacquiao”.
Rungvisai has just returned to Thailand last week after bagging the World Boxing Council Super-flyweight Champion title against previously-unbeaten Nicaraguan boxer Roman Gonzalez.
Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha made the statement at the Government House on Tuesday during his meeting with the hard-hitting Thai boxer Rungvisai who knocked down Gonzalez at the opening round of their fight at Madison Square Garden in New York, The Nation reported.
Meanwhile, Bangkok Post on its March 26 issue also quoted Pacquiao’s tweet. “Philippine boxing legend Manny Pacquiao tweeted after the fight: “I enjoy watching guys that will stand and trade punches instead of jab and run for 12 rounds. This is boxing! #ChocolatitoRungvisai”.
