Pinoy kid tops English proficiency examinations, earns gov’t recognition
PICHIT, Thailand – A Filipino Grade 6 student was recognized by the Provincial Government of Pichit on Monday, September 16, for topping nationwide English proficiency examinations.
Joshua Kobe Tanato, 11, ranked number 1 in the Serm Panya English Proficiency Test in the northern region and number 5 in the nationwide ranking in 2018.
The English Language Proficiency Test Project held in the first semester of the academic year is conducted by the Serm Panya Company.
On March 10, 2019, Kobe attended the awarding ceremonies at Phranakhon Rajabaht University where he received a certificate of recognition from Serm Panya along with the other top examinees from all over the country.
Kobe was born in Pichit in January 2008 and is currently studying at Pichit Inter School where his parents – Joselito and Maria Salome Tanato, both work as language teachers. Kobe has a younger sister, Blue.
“We couldn’t be any prouder of Kobe for this achievement. He didn’t only bring honor to us, his family but also to his school,” said Kobe’s mother. “All we told him when he took the exam was to do his best. To be on the 1st rank was actually a total surprise for all of us,” she added.
“This recognition from the provincial government of Pichit is another unexpected accolade,” Kobe’s father admitted to Pinoy Legacy. “To be acknowledged by the agency which conducted the test and by the school was already overwhelming for us being Kobe’s parents. When we were told that he will receive another certificate, it felt like winning an NBA championship,” he said.
Like any ordinary kids of his age, Kobe likes to play sports during his free time, especially basketball just like his father. If he’s not in the court, he is in the corner reading history books.
Our little achiever, Joshua Kobe Tanato, sees himself as a teacher in the future, following the footsteps of his parents.
