OFWs now required to pay Pag-IBIG contribution
The joint resolution of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and Pag-IBIG Fund directs OFWs to secure their membership identification numbers online.
According to POEA, all overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are now required to immediately submit Pag-IBIG Membership Identification (MID) numbers and pay their monthly contribution.
The POEA and Pag-IBIG directed OFWs to secure their MID numbers by using the POEA’s e-registration system or virtual Pag-IBIG online service portal.
The requirement is meant to ensure “uninterrupted” Pag-IBIG Fund benefits and avoid delays in the processing of loans as well as other claims, according to the two government agencies.
The submission of the MID number, POEA said, provides a “convenient and inexpensive” means for OFWs to pay their Pag-IBIG member contributions.
OFWs and recruitment agencies are reminded to comply with the new policy, which the POEA said aims to improve the lives of Filipinos working abroad.
The agency said OFWs shall encode or input their new Pag-BIG MID numbers into their POEA e-registration accounts.
OFWs who already have a Pag-IBIG MID number but are unable to recall it must verify and then encode into the e-registration system.
The POEA said the payment of Pag-IBIG member contribution shall be made during the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) processing.
Before departure, OFWs are mandated to secure an OEC or exit clearance from the POEA.
