New Year Grand Sale 2019 to begin December 15

Welcoming 2020 just got even more exciting after the Department of Internal Trade announced the “New Year Grand Sale 2019” campaign starting on 15 December.

In a report from The Nation, Wichai Phochanakit, director-general of the Department of Internal Trade, said a provisional agreement had been reached by more than 20 consumer product manufacturers, department stores and retailers to kick off the campaign on December 15 for a full month.

The purpose of the campaign, according to Wichai, is tp help reduced the cost of living as a New Year gift for the people, which will offer bigger discounts than last year or up to 80 percent.

“Products to be featured in the campaign will include consumer products, clothes, food, OTOP, and community products, and more,” Wichai said, adding that “the event will be held at all branches of participating department stores and retailers, which will be a good way to stimulate the economy around the year-end.”

This year is the Department of Internal Trade’s fifth New Year Grand Sale campaigns. Last year (2018), more than 13,500 branches of department stores and retailers nationwide joined the campaign which lasted for 28 days, the report said.

The total sales throughout the campaign amounted to Bt55 billion, with an estimated cost of living reduction of around 30 percent. The most popular items included foods and beverages, kitchenware, clothes and accessories, electrical appliances, and construction materials, the report added.
