New Filipino greeting passes 2nd reading in the House of Representatives
The measure seeking to establish a new Filipino greeting, respect, and praise to help alleviate physical contact amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, was approved on second reading by the house of representatives.
Principally authored by Marikina City Representative Bayani Fernando, the chamber approved House Bill 8149 or the proposed “Bating Pilipino Para Sa Kalusugan Act,” in a vote of yes and no, GMA News reported.
This new Filipino greeting or gesture, which is done by placing the palm of the right hand over the center of the chest while simultaneously lowering the head, with eyes either closed or cast down, covers Filipinos and all other people who are in the Philippines.
All government agencies and instrumentalities are mandated under the measure to allocate their respective resources for information dissemination and to encourage the practice of the new gesture.
