More smog covers Bangkok on Tuesday morning

BANGKOK — The city is blanketed on Tuesday morning with more smog (fine dust particles) exceeding safe health levels in 27 districts. 

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s environment office stated that the levels of hazardous PM2.5 particulates in the air were at 46-77 microgrammes per cubic metre, exceeding the government’s safety standard of 50 mcg in 27 districts. The average reading in the capital was 59 mcg.

Places with recorded unsafe levels according to City clerk Silapasuay Raweesangsoon were in Samphanthawong, Phaya Thai, Wang Thonglang, Pathumwan, Bang Rak, Yannawa, Chatuchak, Bang Kapi, Lat Krabang, Klong San, Bangkok Noi, Phasicharoen, Bang Khen, Bang Phlad, Bang Khunthian, Phra Nakhon, Sathon, Klong Toey, Bang Sue, Laksi, Bung Kum, Suan Luang, Lat Phrao, Sai Mai, Huai Kwang, Don Muang and Phra Khanong districts.

She advised that if people have a cough or breathing difficulties they should avoid outdoor activities and wear protective masks if they must go out.

The BMA had ordered all district offices to spray water on roads, trees and bus stops every day to reduce accumulated dust in the air, Ms Silasuay said.
