Masked gunman opens fire at a shopping mall in Lopburi, killing multiple victims
LOPBURI – A masked gunman carrying a silenced weapon opened fire and killed multiple victims at a Robinson’s Shopping Mall on Phahonyothin Road in Lopburi, Thailand at about 9 pm on Thursday, 9 January 2020.
CCTV footage showed a man wearing military-style dress and a full face mask. According to witnesses, the man opened fire indiscriminately. Two people were initially killed and four others injured.
“Current reports state that at least three victims have succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital, bringing the total killed to five,” said The Pattaya News in their report.
The man fled the scene after robbing a gold shop.
Lopburi police said one of the victims was a two-year-old boy who was shopping with his mother. He died at a hospital a short while ago.
The masked gunman is still at large after fleeing on a Yamaha Fino motorcycle.
Major General Chakthip Chaijinda, Commander in Chief of the Thai Royal Police, called for the immediate capture of the suspect and says all possible resources of the Thai Police are being used to locate the suspect.
UPDATE: Authorities confirmed that only 3 people were killed and not 5 as earlier reported.
