Manny Villar is now Philippines’ richest man

MANILA – Forbes Magazine on Tuesday released “The World’s Billionaires”, an annual ranking by documented net worth of the world’s wealthiest billionaires compiled and published in March annually.

Former Senate president and business tycoon Manny Villar tops the list and is now the richest man in the Philippines and 317th in the world with a net worth of $5.5 billion, Forbes Magazine said.

Villar, chairman of Starmalls, one of the largest mall operators in the country, became the Philippines richest man replacing Chinese-Filipino business magnate and philanthropist Henry Sy who was on the top spot for 11 years.

Sy passed away in his sleep on January 19, 2019.

John Gokongwei of the JG Summit Group has a net worth of $5.1 billion. He came in second and 343rd in the world.

Solaire Casino and Resort owner Enrique Razon, ranked third in the country and 379th in the world with $4.8 billion.

9. Harley Sy, Henry Sy, Jr., and Teresita Sy-Coson ($2.2 billion)
10. Elizabeth Sy ($1.9 billion)
11. Eduardo Cojuangco and Robert Coyiuto, Jr. ($1.4 billion)
12. Ricardo Po Sr. and family ($1.2 billion)
13. Roberto Ongpin ($1.1 billion)

Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos of Amazon is still the world’s richest man with a fortune of $131 billion; followed by Microsoft founder Bill Gates with a net worth of $97.8 billion.
