Lawmakers pledge to give portion of salaries to SEA Games gold medalists
MANILA—Members of the House of Representatives agreed to unite in giving a portion of their salaries to reward SEA Games gold medalists in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
The House of Representatives adopted on Wednesday House Resolution No. 568, authored by Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and other House leaders, congratulating the gold medal winners in the 30th Southeast Asian Games and granting them additional incentives from the leaders and Members of the House in the 18th Congress.
“The leaders and Members of the House of Representatives in the 18th Congress stand in solidarity with the Team Philippines throughout the competition in their quest to capture the gold medals in their respective sports, and to bring honor and pride to the Filipino people,” the resolution read.
“As a concrete manifestation of the commonality of the goal to bring honor and pride to the country, the leaders and Members of the House of Representatives deem it proper to deduct individual pledges from their salaries from January 2020, as additional incentives to Filipino gold medal winners in the 30th SEA Games,” the resolution further stated.
On top of the pledges of Members of the House, SEA Games gold medalists are also going to receive P300,000 as per Section 8 of Republic Act 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act.
