FACT CHECK: President Diosdado Macapagal hosted King Bhumibol Adulyadej during his visit in Manila on July 9, 1963
Fifty-six (56) years ago today, the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand arrived in Manila for a six-day state visit.
The historical visit commenced on the 9th of July and lasted until July 14, 1963.
It was the only time in his 70-year reign that the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej visited the Philippines.
Former Philippine President Diosdado Macapagal and his wife former First Lady Evangelina Macapagal hosted the Thai royals.
During the visit, King Bhumibol was conferred with the Order of Sikatuna, Rank of Raja title while Queen Sirikit was bestowed with the Golden Heart Presidential Award by President and Mrs. Macapagal at the State Dinner at Malacañang Palace.
