In a report from The Nation, authorities suspect van driver Sansern Sathongkhan was likely to have dozed off and driven the van into the opposite lane where it crashed head-on with the oncoming truck.
The authorities and rescue workers rushed to Wang Somboon district following the report of the fatal collision on Sakaew-Chanthaburi Road section near the entrance to the Wang Somboon District Office.
Eleven dead bodies were found on the scene including those of the van driver and the Lao passengers. Several of whom were crushed in the wrecked van while some were thrown out under the force of the impact, the report added.
Four people who were seriously injured were extricated including three Lao passengers as well as the truck driver Subin Pengmee. They were rushed to the district hospital.
