The first display of shooting stars in Thailand is certainly going to make stargazers enjoy the start of the new year. According to Mr. Suparoek Karuhanont of the National Astronomical Research Institute, the Quadrantid meteor shower will be visible on January 4th.

Mr. Suparoek said the best time to see the shower is from 2:30 am until dawn on January 4. He said there will be no disruption caused by the moonlight, adding that the shower may produce as many as 120 shooting stars an hour, Thai PBS World reported.

Unlike most showers that have a two-day peak, the Quadrantid meteor shower only last a few hours. However, it is considered to be one of the best annual meteor showers.

The Quadrantids are also known for their brightness. The fireballs are larger explosions of light and colour that can persist longer than an average meteor’s streak across the sky, the report added.
