MANILA — Construction of the so-called first OFW hospital has got a green light and is set to begin soon.

The hospital will be constructed on the two hectares of land in Barangay Sindalan, San Fernando City, Pampanga.

Apart from the Department of Labor and Employment, other departments and agencies such Department of Health, the local government of Pampanga, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, and some private donors, will be working hand in hand for the project’s completion.

According to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, it is a tribute to the heroism and economic contribution of Filipino workers who venture abroad.

“This hospital is going to be built to recognize the heroism of our OFWs who continue to power economic growth in the country. It’s a fitting tribute to Filipino workers who, through their valuable remittances, have kept the economy afloat during many challenging times,” Bello said in a statement.

Once operational, the first OFW hospital will provide free services for medical certificates, laboratory exams, and other requirements needed for OFWs’ deployment.

Hospital construction is expected to be completed by May 2021.
