Filipino surfer with a heart of gold wins a gold medal
MANILA – Filipino surfer Roger Casugay who netizens described as someone with a “heart of gold” after saving a competitor, has won a gold medal.
Casugay snatched the gold medal in the longboard open event against fellow Filipino surfer Rogelio Esquivel on Sunday, December 8 at Kahuna beach in San Juan, La Union.
The Pinoy surfer declared victorious with a final score of 14.50, while Esquivel who came at a close second got 14.20.
Prior to his performance of topping the event and winning a gold medal in the 30th SEA Games, the 25-year-old Casugay went viral on social media for saving his friend and foe Arit Nurhidayat of Indonesia in the middle of the 3rd round of the surfing men’s longboard competition.
