MANILA — The Department of Health confirmed on Wednesday the second novel coronavirus fatality in the Philippines — a Filipino.

In a statement, DOH stated that Patient 35, identified as a 67-year-old female, was confined at the Manila Doctors Hospital where she died.

The patient began showing symptoms of Covid-19 on February 29, DOH said, adding that she was confirmed to have had the disease on Wednesday.

Patient 35 was the second novel coronavirus fatality in the country. In early February, a 44-year-old Chinese tested positive for the virus, and later died.

The Philippines has currently 49 confirmed cases after health officials announced earlier on Wednesday an additional 6 new cases, including patient 35.
