Filipina weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz wins bronze in Thailand
PATTAYA — Filipina weightlifter and Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz won a bronze medal on Friday at the 2019 International Weightlifting Championships held in Pattaya, Thailand.
Diaz lifted a total of 214 kg (93 kg in Snatch and 121 kg in Clean and Jerk) in the women’s 55 kg category.
The 28-year-old Pinay weightlifter came third behind two Chinese weightlifters, Qiuyun Liao (227 kg) and Wanqiong Zhang (222 kg) who landed first and second respectively, GMA News reported.
Diaz shared on a Facebook post that representing the Philippines in the IWF competition is a privilege from God. She also thanked the Philippine Sports Commission for the support given to the whole Philippine Weightlifting team
“It is a privilege given by God to represent my beloved country, Philippines in a prestigious competition at the IWF World Championship 2019. Thank you @PSC for the support given to the whole Philippine Weightlifting team,” the Filipina weightlifter wrote.
Diaz, also a Philippine Air Force sergeant and Asian Games gold medalist in weightlifting, is eyeing to compete in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
