DSWD Secretary visits ‘Pinay’ detainees in Women’s Correctional in Bangkok

BANGKOK: DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo visited the 24 Filipinas detained in Women’s Correctional in Bangkok, Friday, March 31.

“ATM- visiting 24 Filipinas in Bangkok Women’s Correctional,” the secretary posted in Facebook. “All except two are already sentenced,” she added.

According to the post, the youngest of the 24 women is 28 years old while the oldest is 62. Majority of the cases is drug related.

Although they were allowed to meet the Filipina detainees they were prohibited to take photos,  Taguiwalo shared.

In their brief dialogue, the Filipinas appealed for medical and dental aid and inquired for the latest news in the Philippines.

The DSWD Secretary was joined by Jim Minglana, Vice Consul and Third Secretary of the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok, and an interpreter.
