Day 2 of New Year Road Accidents: 66 dead, 527 injured
There were 510 recorded traffic accidents on Saturday, Dec 28, the second day of the “seven dangerous days” of the New Year holidays in which 66 people lost their lives and 572 others were injured.
Drink driving was still the number one cause of accident (35.5%), followed by speeding (30%). Motorcycles were involved in 64.6% of the incidents, said Anon Lueangboribon, deputy permanent secretary for transport on Sunday as reported by Bangkok Post.
Lampang province in the north had the highest number of accidents of 21, which also saw the highest number of injured people at 26. Nakhon Sawan province, meanwhile, was reported to have the highest death toll, at 5.
There were no traffic casualties in 28 of 77 provinces.
