Chinese tourist mysteriously dies in Chiang Mai resort

CHIANG MAI — The mysterious death of a Chinese tourist in Mae Rim this morning, January 29, raised fears among locals.

The 32-year-old woman was discovered in a room at a resort in Ban Pang Pa Kha, Tambon Mae Ram at around 11 a.m by staff.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak that infected more than 6,000 people in China, the mysterious death of the Chinese national raised fears among locals; prompting emergency services to send staff wearing hazmat suits to collect the body.

The woman from Guangzhou in Guangdong Province visited Chiang Mai with friends, according to a report. She was last seen having a drink the night before with her friends. Her friends also said that she had flu-like symptoms including fever, coughing, and a runny nose.

Chiang Mai hospital is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of her death.

Meanwhile, friends of the Chinese tourist were checked at the scene for any signs of coronavirus while the resort was asked to clean and sterilize all areas as a precaution.
