Chiang Mai based American expat says Filipinos among most sexist, women-hating hypocrites on the planet
BANGKOK, Thailand – An American expat based in Chiang Mai who claimed to have lived in the Philippines refuted a Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist’s claim that pornography has caused negative effects among the youth in the Philippines.
Eric Bahrt, addressing Gerard Biagan’s commentary published in The Nation, commented porn is the least of problems for Filipinos and called the tirade against pornography a show of typical Philippine hypocrisy.
“This is a country which elected as president a man who brags that he has two wives and two girlfriends, cracks jokes about rape victims, calls Barack Obama’s mother “a whore” and is a mass murderer to boot. It’s also a country where men are encouraged to commit adultery and women ordered to remain virgins until marriage,” he stated in a letter published also by The Nation Wednesday, April 19.
Bahrt said that while in the Philippines, he “met women whose husbands left them for other women and would not even give their wives enough money to feed their own children.”
“Despite all this talk about Filipinos being family-oriented Catholics, they are among the most sexist, women-hating hypocrites on the face of this planet. And pornography doesn’t have a damn thing to do with it,” the expat further stated.
The Nation published on Tuesday Biagan’s opinion blaming the availability of pornography in the internet to have driven earlier sexual activity among teenagers in the Philippines thus increasing the cases of teenage pregnancy and HIV infections.
“A major study has once again shown the negative effects of pornography on the youth. The Philippine Commission of Population discovered that data from respondents showed clearly that pornography is driving the youth toward earlier sexual activity,” Biagan wrote.
