Cayetano plans to submit hosting bid for 2030 Asian Games
House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano said he will formally inform President Rodrigo Duterte of the proposal to submit a hosting bid for the 2030 Asian Games.
Cayetano announced the plan Tuesday after the reported suggestion of Olympic Council of Asia vice president Wei Jizhong of China, that the Philippines should host a much bigger event due to the country’s successful hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
“I’m preparing a long memo to the President and I talked to the POC (Philippine Olympic Committee) president kagabi, kay Congressman Bambol Tolentino, he will write—and ask if we can bid and if we do win that bid, ang magho-host hindi pa nga next admin, the admin after next batch,” Cayetano told reporters in an ambush interview.
“Puwedeng gawin natin, ilalagay ko sa memo puwedeng ‘yung head ngayon ng Duterte sports, whoever it is, ipasa kung sino ang next administration then sa pangatlo,” he said.
According to the congressman, if the Philippines wins the bidding, there will be a possibility of constructing sports facilities in Visayas and Mindanao.
“Hindi tayo talaga magbi-build unless sigurado tayong may dadating. So, maganda na meron tayong tina-target 10 years from now,” he added.
Apart from the Philippines which once hosted the event in 1954, Qatar also placed its interest to submit a hosting bid for the 2030 Asian Games.
