Topping the floor exercise event in the world artistic gymnastics championships in Germany on Saturday, Carlos Edriel Yulo gave the Philippines its first taste of gold medal.

At 19, Yulo is this year’s youngest competitor who claimed the gold medal ahead of silver medalist Artem Dolgopyat of Isreal with just 0.1 point, while China’s Xiao Ruoteng settled for the bronze.

Controlled landings gave Yulo an impressive score of 15.300 points.

PSC Chairman William Ramirez congratulated Yulo for bringing pride to the Philippines saying: “We are all thrilled with the golden performance of Caloy. The Office of the President and the PSC (Philippine Sports Commission) family congratulates Caloy for this achievement.”

Carlos Edriel Yulo will once again showcase his strength in the floor exercise event come November this year at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 30th Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines.
