Body of one of the two missing Filipino tourists found lying between rocks
The body of one of the missing Filipino tourists who went missing from Freedom Beach on Wednesday has been found this afternoon. It is confirmed that the body is that of 43-year-old Noah Ibay.
In a report from Thai PBS, Phuket Governor Phakaphong Tavipatana together with Philippine Embassy officials in Bangkok and relatives of the victim were at Patong Hospital on Friday evening.
A tourist who saw the body of Ibay lying between rocks on the beach at about 2 pm earlier today, notified Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation, said the head of the foundation Mr. Apichet Yim-on.
After being alerted of the situation, the rescue team patrolling the area rushed to the scene to recover Ibay’s body and sent it to Patong Hospital. Meanwhile, other members of the rescue team continue to patrol the area in search of the other missing Filipino tourist.
“Due to the 5-6 metres waves, we have been unable enter the water at all. All we can do for now is search along the beach on foot” said Apichet as reported by Thai PBS, adding that, because of the onshore wind, it is likely that they will find the other missing person, Angelo Cortez, 29, near the beach.
According to rescue workers, the beach is not currently open to the public so ‘No Swimming’ signs were not displayed, the report added.
