5 Smart Reasons Why Health Is One Of The Best Investments You Can Make
When I turned 40, I decided to stop eating meat. The crispy fried chicken at KFC and McDonald’s were my best friends before, but not anymore.
I never smoke nor drink alcohol. Most of the time, I play basketball to burn more calories. I also try to avoid eating other unhealthy food. Most importantly, I try to maintain a positive attitude and healthy spirit. Truth be told, keeping a healthy lifestyle has no risks involved and only requires a little amount of capital—unlike investing in the stock market, mutual funds and other businesses.
Physical fitness and longevity is essential to live a happy life. So, there’s no reason not to take care of your health.
But why is it that most people are still embracing unhealthy lifestyle? Have you noticed that people nowadays are getting sick even at a young age? They suffered from lifestyle diseases such as hypertension, obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, atherosclerosis, etc., which can be prevented.
Needless to say, our immune system declines as we grow older. Let me tell you why investing in good health is one of the best form of investments you can make—always better than having six-digits in your bank account.

1. Investing in good health can reduce healthcare cost
There is wisdom in saying “Bawal magkasakit.” While poor health can make your life miserable and unproductive, long-term medication can also wipe out all your savings and asset. Moreover, healthcare cost such as medicine, doctor’s visit, and hospitalization are now quite expensive that average people could not afford.
The truth is, a devastating financial hit from hospital bills is even scarier than the illness itself. If you want to reduce your risk factors for various conditions, improve your health and follow some simple lifestyle choices.
2. Healthy life means more time to spend with your loved ones
My father died due to acute kidney problem when we were still children. When you are taking care of your body, you will be enjoying the health benefits. It simply means more quality time to spend with your loved ones.
The ugly side of poor health is that you are going to be a burden to your family when you are sick. How can you be there for your spouse, children and family if you are sick, or worst, gone? The answer is that you can’t. So, if you love your family, better to take care of your health.
3. Investing in good health will prevent disease
Most diseases nowadays are acquired due to lifestyle instead of hereditary. Meaning, the food that you eat, drink, and other unhealthy habits can make an impact to your health in the long run. If you invest in your health today, you are fighting and preventing future diseases.
Healthy diets have lots of essential nutrients and serve as rightful medicine. When you buy processed foods, you’re literally buying illnesses. Better to eat good foods now than to take the medicine later. Therefore, start by feeding your body better fuel and adding 15-30 minutes of exercise into your day.
4. Good health can increase productivity at work
Good health is always associated with productivity. Employers would always want to hire and retain staff or workers who are physically fit than those who are not. The obvious benefit of having a healthy workforce is that healthier employees are absent less often and have minimal sick leave.
But if you maintain good health and positive spirit, you will no doubt be an asset of the company. In addition, healthy workers are more motivated to stay in work, recover from sickness quicker and are at less risk of long term illness.
5. Poor health can make your life unhappy and miserable
The effect of poor health is detrimental to anyone’s life. Imagine a person suffering from a stroke for years. They are always grumpy, feel bored, irritated and hopeless while on the sickbed or wheelchair. You can’t even enjoy travelling when you’re sick. The money that you have including mansion, BMW, private pool with jacuzzi are all useless.
Because the zest of life has gone, people who are sick spend most of the time about complaining the emotional and physical pain they are suffering. People on the sickbed cannot enjoy their lives. Hence, you need to take care of your health before it’s too late. Jim Rohn once said, “Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.”
Keep in mind
Good health is the best form of investment anyone can have. Look at your current health habits and ask yourself whether you are living to the fullest before it’s too late. Eat right, maintain a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and make sure you have enough rest and sleep. Healthy lifestyle requires a tremendous amount of discipline, commitment and dedication.
Lastly, most of the diseases are connected to stress and anxieties. Do not take for granted the spiritual aspect of your life as the integral part of physical healing and happiness. Remember, God has the power to heal us of all our infirmities.
Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.–3 John 1:2, NIV
