5 exciting things to do in Chiang Mai for Songkran

CHIANG MAI: It appears that those who care less about the merriment of Songkran Festival are in for a treat with the stricter rules released by authorities to ensure safety and in respect of the on-going mourning period for the passing of the late King Rama IX.

But the party creatures should not worry much because they can still party in different  designated areas in Bangkok or go out of town to experience the countryside ‘Thai New Year‘ or better yet, go up north to Chiang Mai for an array of activities for Songkran Festival.

Here’s a list of top things to do in Chiang Mai for Songkran Festival 2017:

  1. Experience ancient Thai Culture in Chiang Mai City

Songkran Festival is an ancient celebration that entails a lot of ancient traditions to go with it: Lanna ornament contest, traditional Buddhist worship ceremonies, Mister and Miss Songkran beauty contest, a traditional art contest, among others. Most of these events will happen around the moat or at Thapae Gate just at the heart of the city where you can also take souvenir photographs with beautiful Thai ladies in their traditional Thai dresses. Party goers must bear in mind though that strict laws on alcohol are strictly implemented around this area.

     2.  Run with love in PRC’s mini-marathon

On April 12, The Prince Royal College is organizing a 6.3 kilometer run from 6 am to 8 am dubbed as ‘PRC Run with Love’.

    3. Take part in Water Wars at Prasert Land, Chiang Mai

If you are into live band music, this is the place to party as they have a series of live performances from the 12th to the 15th of April. If these names -Buddha Bless, Klear, Stamp and Scrubb, ring a bell, you may book your tickets for only 100 baht and 300 baht for VIP. Party kicks off at 5 pm until late night.

    4. Get wet in a Pool Party at Le Méridien

For only 300 baht, you can join what’s known to be the most talked about pool party in Chiang Mai from 3 pm until 10 pm on the 13th of April. Music is to be provided by acclaimed DJ Groove and DJ Richie B.

    5.  Enjoy the Free concert by Chang Music Connection

  • April 15th – Tattoo Colour and Skykick Ranger
