MANILA — Athletes from Cambodia, Myanmar, and Thailand may not agree that it’s more fun in the Philippines after experiencing how unprepared the Pearl of the Orient is in hosting the 2019 SEA Games.

According to social media posts from the three Southeast Asian Countries, the welcome was poor and not at all comfortable.

“Very uncomfortable”, said the post on Saturday (November 23) from Myanmar-Based Duwun Sports about the photos of the under-23 football team of Myanmar waiting inside of what looked like a cramped vehicle.

Duwun Sports said the team waited so long at the airport for their service, adding that because of the delays, the team which was supposed to practice on Saturday night will no longer be able to.

“Duwun Sports team members in the Philippines said they have to contest the event,” it said.

Thailand’s official football team took to Instagram to air their views as well, saying that the coach had to cancel the players’ training due to logistical problems.

The Instagram post said that due to the processing of their arrival documents at NAIA being slow, the team’s schedule was pushed back. The trip from the airport to their hotel took them two long hours too.

“The distance from the accommodation to the training field takes two hours… It is the result of [a] change in program to the players to stretch the line,” the caption read.

Sea Games 2019Photos of Cambodians under-23 football team sleeping on the carpet are also making waves online. According to some accounts, the team’s accommodation wasn’t ready yet.

The country’s budget for the 2019 SEA Games is P6 billion and the budget allocated for the accommodation of delegates and VIPs is close to P380 million.
