We all want to be happy, but such goal can be elusive for many. To a child, being happy is quite simple: having a new pair of shoes, eating candy or lollipop, playing hide-and-seek, and watching cartoon movies. As you get older, happiness becomes too complicated.
While Finland is ranked number one in World Happiness Report (2018), you don’t have to be in that country to experience true happiness. All you need to do is to learn and follow these 13 simple rules to live a happier life.
1. Think positively
Negative thoughts can drain your energy, so think positively. It’s hard to be optimistic when you are surrounded by toxic people. What other people think of you is none of your business.
2. Network well
Whether you like it or not you will need help and support from others. So it’s who you know and who knows you that matters. You must develop relationships and connections within your network to have more opportunities.
3. Exercise daily
A regular exercise is beneficial to your health and spirit. You can’t be productive unless you’re healthy. Exercising causes the body to make chemicals that can help a person to feel good.
4. Eat healthy
While it’s tempting to eat unhealthy food as they are readily accessible, never forget to nourish your body with healthy food. Eating a well-balanced, healthy diet can help you to manage weight, prevent chronic diseases and decrease level of stress.
5. Work hard
Success is no accident. It is a product of hard work and perseverance. Be passionate to enhance your skills and try to learn new things.
6. Stay strong
When you are confronted with challenges, remain calm yet resilient. Some people are only good at the beginning, but always left with unfinished tasks. Just like marathon, stay strong until you reached the finish line.
7. Build faith
Positive spirit does not grow automatically. To build faith, you should feed yourself with positive thoughts and learn to count your blessings. Read or study the Word of God consistently.
8. Worry less
While you can’t avoid adversities in life, it’s great to avoid worries. If worry is good, then I must remind you to worry every single day of your life, but it’s not. Embrace uncertainty with hope and courage.
9. Read more
Never stop learning. Read more good books that will uplift your soul and inspire you to be a better person.
10. Be happy
You don’t own all the problems in the world. No one is in charge of your happiness–except you. Being happy does not depend on happy circumstances, but a matter of right perspective and attitude.
11. Volunteer freely
Be of service. If you have talent or skills make yourself available especially to someone who is in need. Our world needs people who are not just chasing for money.
12. Relax often
Jobs nowadays can be stressful and demanding. Never forget to relax and spend time with your loved ones. Learn to unwind once in a while and find things that will bring real joy.
13. Love always
Building relationship is essential— in fact, more important than money, possessions and career. A loving person is usually a happy person.
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. –Proverbs 17:22
